History of Bangalore [Bengaluru]
Bangalore (now Bengaluru) is the capital of Karnataka and has a long history. It was founded in 1537 by Kempe Gowda I, who built a mud fort. Over time, the city grew and was ruled by many, including the Marathas, Mughals, and later the British. Today, it is known as the "Silicon Valley of India" because of its booming IT industry.
Key Historical Events:
1537: Kempe Gowda I, under the Vijayanagara Empire, builds a mud fort and starts the city.
1638: The Bijapur Sultanate defeats Kempe Gowda III and gives the city to Shahaji Bhonsle.
17th–18th centuries: Bangalore is ruled by different powers, including the Marathas, Mughals, Hyder Ali, and Tipu Sultan.
1799: The British take over after Tipu Sultan is defeated.
1800s: The British set up a cantonment, changing the city’s look and infrastructure.
Post-1947: After India’s independence, Bengaluru becomes the capital of Karnataka and grows quickly, especially in technology.
2006: The city is officially renamed "Bengaluru" to match the local Kannada language
